ISC General Information

Every year in August we organize the International Science Camp (ISC) for participants from all over the world. You choose three week-long courses and combine them into an extraordinary experience of science. English is the working language. You will present your approaches, experiences and results at a symposium.

On weekends and in the evenings we arrange a cultural and social program. Socializing among students from different cultural backgrounds is as important as experimental work and scientific learning.

Courses

Understanding natural sciences is fundamental to modern life. In our summer school you will discover how physics, chemistry and biology contribute to a sustainable development. You will pick three week-long courses from a list of topics like Physics in Life Sciences, Biomedicine, Light and Matter, Renewable Energies, Laser Physics, Numerical Simulation of Physical Systems, Plastics: Production and Sustainability, Lake Ecosystem Ecology, Anatomy and Neurobiology. Every day you will perform experiments in small groups of two or three students. Our scientific staff will supervise you, and help you gain hands-on experience, skills and good results.

Location

Göttingen is known for its university and is located in the southern part of Lower Saxony in the middle of Germany. The XLAB is embedded in the university’s science campus.

Language

English is the common language of science and the language used during the camp. Participants' English language skills must be at least CEFR level B2.

Arrival

The International Science Camp lasts 3 weeks. Courses begin on August 5, 2024 in the morning. Overseas participants should arrive on Saturday, August 3 to allow a day to rest. All other participants should arrive on Sunday, August 4 if possible. The camp ends on Sunday, August 25 after breakfast (departure day).

Price Information

The course fee of EUR 3,900.00 per person is all-inclusive except for travel costs. The term of payment is 3 weeks after receipt of the invoice. If the payment is delayed, we reserve the right to pass the place to another applicant.

Scholarships

To apply for a grant, please contact organizations such as the German Academic Exchange Service, companies in your area, your school or university, or charitable foundations in your city/country. Unfortunately, we cannot award scholarships ourselves.

Accommodation

Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms of three or four beds in a youth hostel 30 minutes from the XLAB. The youth hostel offers plenty of space and facilities for sports and games indoors and outdoors like table tennis, volleyball, boules and basketball or for a relaxed get-together.
